This was a very special meeting for members of Haywards Heath Ceramics Group as they celebrated the formation of the group thirty years ago. The Chairman, Mrs Carol Clement, welcomed all members and guests. She then invited two of the original Committee members, Mrs Jean Morris and Mrs Stella Gibson, to cut the birthday cake.

Mrs Anne Haworth, lecturer at the V&A and the British Museum,
then gave a very interesting and informative talk entitled
“Shells and Shamrocks, Belleek Porcelain from Co. Fermanagh”.
The Belleek Porcelain Company was formed after the Irish potato famine and was a life-saver for the area in Northern Ireland, providing very much needed work. Formed by a group of philanthropists on an estate where the essential kaolin and feldspar were found, it is still today producing the incredibly intricate and beautifully glazed porcelain for which it has become world famous .
Our members brought some beautiful pieces from their collections.
If you are interested in some books on the subjects, please look up for Dr Geoffrey Godden and Marion Langham titles.
