January 2013 – The new year started with Jane Gardiner and Wedgwood

Our first lecture for the new year was on the subject of Wedgwood and our speaker was Mrs Jane Gardiner, who has spoken to us on many occasions. She traced the life of Josiah Wedgwood and his development of his distinctive porcelain.

We had some examples that were brought in by the members.
The lecture was followed by our annual informal lunch.

Renaissance Maiolica

In May 2012 Ms Elisa Sani gave us  “An Introduction to Renaissance Maiolica”. She is an expert on this subject at the V&A and had collated the current exhibition on this subject. Following the lecture a group of members visited the V&A where we were personally taken around the exhibition by Ms Sani. It was a great pleasure to see the actual pieces of Maiolica and hear extra information about them.

Ms Sani has written a book on Maiolica and one of the places to read more about the subject is here
